COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
WIRE FABRIC
(SPLINT, WIRE MESH)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification GG-K-391.
This commercial item description covers wire mesh for bone fractures.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be 3-3/4 + 1/8 inches wide by 30 + 1/2 inches long.
Framework shall be of No.4 mesh with selvaged edges in accordance with ASTM A 740.
Shall be galvanized.
Can be coated with plaster of paris while in use to protect or keep injured part in place.
Each individual plint shall be rolled about strawboard core and pressed.
Shall be waterproof when specified.
Workmanship. The wire mesh splint shall be free from broken wires, sharp edges, and other defects which affect its use or serviceability.
The issue of ASTM A 740 in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirement.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The item shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
