Zinc coating. Unless otherwise specified, after fabrication, the wire fabric shall be hot-dipped in accordance with ASTM A153 and the coating weight shall conform with 5.6 of ASTM A740. When specified the wire fabric shall electroplated with zinc in accordance with ASTM B633, and the coating shall be not less than 5 percent of the bare steel weight.
Edges. Both edges of the wire fabric shall be selvaged to prevent unraveling.
Workmanship. The wire fabric shall be free from imperfections which may impair its serviceability or affect its performance.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary’ to assure that supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
Sampling.
Lot. All rolls of wire fabric of the same size, and width presented for acceptance at one time shall be considered a lot for purposes of inspection.
Sampling for quality conformance examination. A random sample of wire fabric rolls shall be selected from each lot in accordance with MIL-STD-105 special inspection level S-2, AQL 6.5 expressed in terms of percent defective.
Sampling for tests. Samples shall be selected in accordance with the applicable ASTM standard.
Visual and dimensional inspection. The sample rolls shall be visually and dimensionally examined to verify compliance with this specification.
